Nigerian Student at Zhongnan University of Economics and Law Claims Global Crown in "Chinese Bridge" Storytelling Contest

Nnabuike Sunday Chisom, a Nigerian student from Zhongnan University of Economics and Law, won the championship at the 2025 "Chinese Bridge" Chinese Proficiency Competition for foreign students, which concluded on Tuesday in Hangzhou.

The competition, organized by China's Ministry of Education and the Center for Language Education and Cooperation, attracted over 1,400 participants from more than 90 countries through both online and offline preliminary contests.

Another student from the same university, Bimpong-Donkor Naana Nhyira from Ghana, reached the global top 50. In the semifinals, she captivated judges with a vivid presentation about Wuhan, describing both its summer heat and the warmth of its people.

The final showdown saw Chisom, who goes by the Chinese name Qi Yunsong, deliver a winning performance combining stand-up comedy about ancient poets Li Bai and Meng Haoran with a heartfelt reflection on his study experience in China.

"Chinese has not only healed my homesickness but also inspired me to become a bridge telling China's stories to the world." Chisom told the audience during his performance, which included traditional bamboo clapper talk.

ZUELbeen actively promoting international Chinese education and encouraging overseas students to share China's stories from diverse perspectives, according to the school's statement.
