On the afternoon of September 23, the “Rooted in the Grass-Roots” field study group led by the Management Science Department of NSFC came to ZUEL for athemed symposium on “The Role of Young Scientists Fund in Promoting the Growth of Chinese Scientists: A Case Study of the Management Science Discipline”. Wu Gang, Deputy Director of the Management Science Department, Chen Zhongfei, Deputy Director of the Third Division of the Management Science Department, and other members of the field study group participated in the field study. Zhu Fangwei, President and Deputy Secretary of the CPC ZUEL Committee, Zhang Qi, Vice President and Member of the CPC ZUEL Standing Committee, Chen Baifeng, Vice President and Member of the CPC ZUEL Standing Committee, Zhou Yunfeng, Director of the Resource Allocation Office of Department of Science and Technology of Hubei Province, Hu De, Director of the Financial Research Office of Hubei Provincial Branch of the People’s Bank of China, and 22 faculty representatives attended the symposium. The symposium was chaired by Chen Baifeng.

In his address, Wu Gang outlined the funding system of the Young Scientists Fund projects, covering the development process of Management Science Department, the evolution of management science research paradigms, the realities of China’s management science discipline, and the challenges facing management science. He emphasized that the NSFC has adhered to allocating precious scientific and technological resources to the most innovative and dynamic frontline researchers.




Zhou Yunfeng introduced the development and funding system of the Hubei Provincial Natural Science Foundation, with a focus on the relevant situation of the Youth Project. He also made suggestions on the funding and completion of the NSFC projects. Hu De exchanged views with whom?? on using financial power to promote reform and innovation, strengthen policy research, and deepen win-win cooperation. Zhang Qi highly affirmed the inclusiveness of the NSFC towards young researchers, and at the same time put forward several suggestions on the efficiency of fund utilization. Faculty representatives in attendance shared their experiences in undertaking NSFC projects, expressing their gratitude to the NSFC for its meticulous work. Also, they provided concrete examples and suggestions for further optimizing the talent support system and consolidating the foundation of scientific research talents.


In the concluding address, Zhu Fangwei expressed gratitude to the NSFC for providing ZUEL with a valuable opportunity for studying and learning with NSFC. He encouraged faculty members to identify research questions of fundamental values, seek out and foster team cooperation, anchor their works in Chinese practice and pursue cutting-edge research. At the end of the symposium, Wu Gang replied to participants’ feedback while holding that the NSFC maintains a dual-track strategy that combines free-explored and goal-oriented research. He also advised young scholars to pay close attention to the leading role of NSFS’s project guidelines.
